Margaret Thatcher's Cabinet

AGENDA:

Devising a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism within the United Kingdom.

ABOUT COMMITTEE:

Just when the clock was about to strike 02:54, out went the bomb at Brighton’s Grand Hotel on the night of October 12th, 1984. Fire, smoke, and ashes veiled everyone’s vision. The scathing silence appeared deafening in comparison to the violence that had just unfolded. The attempt at reducing the nation's resolve to smithereens seemed more significant than the destruction of the immediate setting. Though physically injured, Margaret Thatcher’s Cabinet emerges with a sombre yet steady resolve from the ruins of this terrorising bombing to lead the nation to echelons of hope and glory.

This momentous moment, to be forever etched in history, raises the question of whether the effect of this ticking time bomb will weaken the very foundation of the United Kingdom or serve as a catalyst, leading the nation into the realms of growth and prosperity. The fragile yet resolute future of the country lies in your able hands. Will the Cabinet brave this conspiring tempest or surrender to the very winds of chaos? The choice is yours.

CHAIRPERSONS' ADDRESS:

“The Only Way To Guarantee Peace Is By Making The Prospect Of War Seem Hopeless.”
- Thomas Shelby

Greetings Delegates,

For the next few days, you will not be simply representing the Tories who were in power in 1984. Imagine yourself managing Spurs trying to win a trophy- that’s who you are now; that’s the level of challenges that await you in this Committee. We have planned a Committee for you which will be like watching Nadal play this season or watching RCB play any season- you’ll be entertained but your heart beat will die out any moment (you also might end up crying).

In all seriousness, our Committee will be special than any other committee you’ve seen in this circuit, for every delegate, even the Chairperson, literally survived a bomb attack less than 24 hours ago. As the debris settles at the Grand Hotel in Brighton and blood stains the walls as well as the Marks & Spencers attires, the IRA stains the integrity of the United Kingdom. The IRA has been our Pat Cummins, mercilessly destroying everyone in their path like a madman. However, just like Pat Cummins, they too shall be silenced.

You delegates have a mission. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (except you don’t have a choice) is not to repeat history, but to breathe life into it. In this Committee, you have been empowered with control over the affairs of the United Kingdom. These powers and their abilities are only limited by your imaginations (and your portfolio’s mandates, and logic, and other stuff). The Executive Board is looking for a delegate who won’t be the best delegate based on his award, but the best delegate based on his ability; someone who utilizes the power he has been given in his portfolio to come up with flawless solutions, makes the most eloquent speeches and writes the most creative communiques (just don’t dissolve the United Kingdom, unless the Committee calls for it).

So, let’s hit the ground running. Flood our inboxes with your ingenious plans and let’s see if Thomas Shelby knew what he was talking about.

Delegates, the floor is now yours.

Until Committee Begins,
Parth Singhania and Kushal Taparia,
Co-Chairpersons,
Margaret Thatcher’s Cabinet,
